FAQs

What is Somatic Sex Education?

Somatic sex educators help you build capacity for somatic (body) awareness and expanded pleasure, through body-based exercises and experiences.  They strive to guide and aid you in developing presence within your body, opening interior awareness, and learning how the body can feel more and more alive.    SSE is an effective way to address a range of sexual problems, from premature ejaculation to not being able to orgasm readily.

What is NeuroAffective Touch?

NAT is a gentle touch-based practice to allows your body to be held and supported with deep presence, and helps to integrate mind and body.  It fosters direct communication and support to the body at the nonverbal level -- where we all receive our first imprints, which can remain and constrict us, even after years of talk therapy.   NAT addresses the physical effects of emotional traumas to reconnect us to the wholeness of our body, mind and soul

What happens in sessions?

  • We’ll spend some time during the first part of your session with a brief check-in.

  • We’ll do a somatic (whole body) meditation to help you feel more present in your body and calm your nervous system, which allows you to feel more pleasure.

  • Throughout the session, we’ll access pleasure as a resource, while breathing consciously and noticing sensations in your body.  What we do specifically depends on your intentions and how safe you feel.  Our work can include conscious breathing, movement, body awareness, boundary-setting, communication, anatomy, sensate focus, massage, genital dearmoring, and other body-based practices.

  • We'll work together using body-based practices (breath, touch, movement, and sound), with mindfulness around consent and a feeling of safety in your body.   Throughout the session, we'll move at the speed of trust, with curiosity around what feels good, and what would feel even better!

  • We’ll take time for a few minutes of stillness towards the end, so that your body can integrate the experience.

  • We'll  connect within a day or two after the session, by text, short call, or email), to check in about what you are noticing in your body, aha moments and learnings, and how the what we did during the session is resonating with you.

Is this work right for me?

There are several factors that can affect your capacity to embark on this deeply vulnerable and transformative journey.   Here are some possible considerations, which you can read more about in the PDF. (adapted from the SSEA web site page on ethics):

  • Do you have a support system?

  • Are you ready emotionally?

  • Are you ready physically?

  • Are you ready mentally?

  • Do you have enough time?

  • Can you afford a series of sessions?

  • Have you found a practitioner you feel good about?

  • Are you able to speak up if things feel wrong?

  • Are you building a community?

Where are you located?

I live and work just south of Nyack, NY, about 30 miles outside New York City, along the Hudson River, a couple miles south of I-87 and the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Do you offer any discounts on your services?

I offer reparative pricing for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and disability community members, with a sliding scale down to 50% of my standard rates.   I offer reparative pricing in the spirit of making systemic amends to communities who actively experience violence, oppression, and economic disparities.

I offer payment plans to all clients who would find this helpful to budget their time and money.

I offer package pricing (lower per session rate) for 3- and 5-session packages.   You can choose to pay in full, for the deepest discount, or pay-as-you-go, paying my single session rate, with the discount applied to the last session in the package.

Creating financial access to Somatic Sex Education is important to me, and I'm experimenting with different ways to do that.

  • Offering an annual sale, where you can pre-pay for a single session for 25% off, or session packages for 10% off.

  • Offering a limited number of sliding scale session for people on fixed incomes or for whom the full session rate would create financial hardship.

How many sessions do clients typically receive?

Since each client’s intention and journey is unique, so too are the number of sessions addressing each intention.  The conversation during your first session sheds light on how many sessions, and what kind of sessions may best serve your intentions.  The majority of clients find that 3 to 9 sessions helps them meet their intentions and experience positive, pleasurable transformation in their lives.

How can I best prepare myself for a session?

Having a clear intention and slowing down to listen for your body's longings and innate wisdom best sets the stage for a series of sessions. That said, going into sessions with curiosity, rather than attachment to a specific goal, can open the doors to deep transformation.  Frequently, clients share that their expansion into embodied pleasure, wholeness and transformative healing exceeded what they first envisioned.  As so often in life, what is possible is often beyond our imagination.

Self-care after a session is as important as what happens before or during sessions.   I recommend not rushing into another activity, rather having a buffer of time afterwards, to gently transition while intregration and savoring continue.   Having a meal, taking a walk, or spending time in nature are all great after a session.    Having a journal handy to jot down noticings, impressions and insights can also be helpful.   Let's check in together a day or two after your session to talk about what you are noticing in your body and came up for you in the session, and next steps to take.

Why are you offering free Healing Touch with sessions?

Most clients don't have energy work in  mind when they reach out to me. However, we all have an energy field that surrounds and penetrates our body.  Healing Touch has many beneficial effects -- relaxation, healing of trauma and damage to the energy field, and calming and balancing the mind and body.   I want to provide you maximum benefit and healing, and passionately believe that integrating Healing Touch into your session helps the body integrate the changes and provides an additional layer of healing.  What it means is that I will connect to universal energy, and share it with you with no agenda.  I ask that you receive, through me, whatever you need.  It's my gift to you!
